Alba Racero is an experienced chemist specializing in polymers, the circular economy and innovative materials.
Alba gained her bachelor’s degree in chemistry at the University of Basque Country (EHU/UPV) in San Sebastian, Spain with a distinction in polymer materials and processes. She also holds a Master of Science degree in polymer chemistry from the University of Basque Country (EHU/UPV).
During her time at EHU/UPV, Alba also performed research in computational chemistry, polymerization processes and innovative polymers at POLYMAT. More specifically, Alba designed an innovative organic catalyst to polymerizate commercial polymers in water instead of organic solvents leading to cleaner, more cost-effective solutions. She also studied poly(ionic) liquids and adapted them to invent a conductive polymer for bioelectronic and battery applications.
As a polymer chemist in Worn Again Technologies, Alba leads the cellulose recycling effort. Day to day she combines innovative ideas with cutting edge technology to find improved processes to recycle cotton from textile waste. Alba is also driving the scale-up of the cotton recycling process for the upcoming Demonstration Plant in Winterthur, Switzerland.
In her spare time, Alba loves playing sports such as yoga and swimming on a daily basis. She also likes to read and travel.
